Epigenetics and individual skin care

What is epigenetics?

Epigenetics is the study of changes in gene activity. Epigenetics aims to slow the aging process of the skin. The term is derived from the Greek "epi" ("upon," "over," "in addition") and "genetics." It concerns how certain "switches" are turned on or off, which control how and when genes are active. These "switches" are chemical changes to the DNA or the proteins around which the DNA is wrapped in the cell nucleus. These epigenetic modifications are mutable and reversible. This means that they can change over the course of an individual's life due to external factors such as environmental conditions, chemicals, or personal lifestyle (e.g., diet, stress, exercise).
